George Cook, Computers 4 Charity, joins Techies Go Green as Social & Community Amabassador

Techies Go Green, a movement of IT and tech-oriented companies, welcomes George Cook, Honorary Chief Executive at Computers 4 Charity, to the GO GREEN Ambassador programme as Social and Community Ambassador.

George joins other in industry experts and leaders as Michael O’Hara (DataSolutions), John Gladstone (Softcat) and Dermott Reilly (IngeniaTouch), just to name a few.

George started refurbishing computers in 1996 and worked with PM Tony Blair to set up 20 computer refurbishing projects around the UK. In 2004 Microsoft invited George to lead on its internal project supplying refurbished devices to Africa for Bill Gates. In 2021 ACER launched the Aspire Vero laptop made from recycled materials, with Computers 4 Charity as its refurbishment partner.

Today Computers 4 Charity works in partnership with UK charities such as BITC and LandAid, government and businesses, upgrading computers for re-use, giving devices a second life and delivering ESG.

The Go Green Ambassadors are be responsible for inspiring and enabling a culture of sustainability among the movement’s signatory community – now more than 300 members – as the world moves towards a carbon neutral future.

This group will raise awareness of sustainability by delivering environmental education through articles and virtual events, while motivating others to be more energy efficient through the adoption of environmentally friendly lifestyles and renewable energy resources.

They will also lead projects and develop initiatives to help reduce signatories’ environmental impact both at work and home, thus enabling and supporting a ‘think green, live green’ approach.
