Bia Energy: Turning Food Waste into Clean Power
Transforming surplus food into renewable biomethane and biofertiliser, right here in Dublin.
What if yesterday’s waste could power tomorrow’s world?
Bia Energy is doing exactly that. Based in Dublin, they’re leading Ireland’s waste-to-energy movement by converting surplus and short-dated food into renewable fuel and nutrient-rich biofertiliser.
Bia Energy sits at the centre of Ireland’s clean energy transition, tackling one of the biggest overlooked problems: food waste.
Working across retail, hospitality, agriculture, and food production, the company collects surplus packaged food that would otherwise go to waste. Instead of landfill, that waste is redirected into a fully operational anaerobic digestion (AD) plant located just off the M50, close to Dublin Port and Airport.
Through this process, food waste is transformed into high-quality biomethane — a renewable gas — and digestate, a biofertiliser that supports sustainable agriculture.
With an electrical grid connection of up to 5MW and plans to produce over 120GWh of biomethane annually, Bia Energy is building real infrastructure for a lower-carbon future.
Their logistics network and central location allow for efficient nationwide collection and processing, making them a key player in Ireland’s circular economy.
