75,000 Homes. 70,000 Tons of Carbon Gone. All From Offaly’s Wind.
Step inside Ireland’s newest wind farm, Yellow River in County Offaly and see how clean energy is made.
Here are some key facts:
29 wind turbines – each standing tall, capturing the Midlands wind to generate clean energy.
101 MW installed capacity – enough to power the equivalent of almost 75,000 Irish homes every year.
Fully operational since 2025 – from construction to grid connection in just under three years.
70,000 tonnes of carbon emissions offset annually – supporting Ireland’s push toward a low-carbon future.
Construction & Scale:
Built between October 2022 and 2025, with the first turbine installed in June 2024.
Around 150 construction jobs were supported at peak delivery, bringing work to the local community while building a major national energy asset.
Power, Impact & Community:
Yellow River isn’t just turbines, it’s a system that feeds clean electricity straight into Ireland’s national grid, powering homes, cutting carbon emissions, and supporting the 2030 Climate Action targets.
As part of SSE’s 35 wind farms nationwide, it contributes to a broader renewable network, including battery storage projects and offshore wind plans.
Through the Yellow River Community Benefit Fund, local initiatives receive funding, ensuring the project delivers real impact where it matters most.
