Powering Change: How DaysE Turns Clean Energy into Social Impact
A Smarter Way to Donate: Turning Waste into Worth
At the heart of the DaysE model is a simple but powerful idea: many commercial energy users are wasting energy, while others can’t afford or access it. DaysE partners with organisations to identify opportunities for energy savings—through upgrades, behavioural change, or renewable generation—and then redirects the value of those savings to support non-profit organisations and community-led energy projects.
This donation can take several forms:
Energy credits, made possible through utility partners in Ireland
Services or supplies, such as insulation, lighting or heating upgrades
Financial contributions, tied to the carbon or cost savings achieved
Unlike one-off donations, DaysE’s model creates a lasting impact—reducing energy bills and emissions for years to come. It’s a donation that keeps giving.
Solar Aid for Palestine: Bringing Power Where It’s Needed Most
One of DaysE’s most urgent and inspiring projects is Power for Palestine. In partnership with Glas Energy, DaysE has developed the Solar Aid Pack — a portable, rugged set of foldable solar panels, paired with a high-capacity power bank and LED light.
These kits are designed to provide essential electricity in refugee camps, powering phones, radios, torches, and small devices—helping people stay connected, informed, and safe in the most challenging environments.
Launched in August 2024, the initiative began with just ten kits. But following overwhelming support—including donations raised at Electric Picnic’s Global Green—DaysE has significantly scaled up distribution, with the goal of reaching many more families in need.
The 3E Initiative: Energy, Education and Enterprise in Tanzania
Beyond emergency relief, DaysE is also developing long-term energy access solutions in the Global South. In Tanzania, where many schools lack electricity, DaysE is piloting its 3E Initiative—a model built on Energy, Education, and Enterprise.
In collaboration with Kinetic NRG (London) and Camara Education (Dublin and Tanzania), the 3E pilot is deploying solar-powered energy hubs in schools that:
Power computer labs and e-learning centres
Replace fossil fuel generators and kerosene lighting
Create local battery rental businesses, offering clean energy access
Serve as enterprise incubators for students and the wider community
This model empowers schools not only to educate more effectively, but to become centres of economic opportunity and sustainability. It's a powerful example of how clean energy can be a foundation for long-term social progress.
Energy as a Shared Resource
DaysE’s wider mission is to rethink how we value and use energy. By creating systems where individuals and organisations can donate their energy savings or surplus—whether financial or in-kind—the charity transforms energy from a commodity into a tool for social impact.
The Power for Palestine campaign is just one strand of this bigger vision. From local community energy sharing in Ireland to international aid, DaysE is building bridges between decarbonisation and humanitarian action.
Join Our Webinar with Glas Energy and DaysE Founder, Colm Byrne
As we push for net zero across the tech industry, Power for Palestine is a timely reminder of the deeper human value behind the sustainability movement. It’s not just about reducing emissions—it’s about using our resources wisely and compassionately.
At Techies Go Green, we strive to lift up efforts like DaysE that bring innovation and empathy together. This is what a just transition looks like: communities supporting each other, powered by clean, shared energy.
Join us on Wednesday, June 25th, as we discuss with Colm Byrne, who has over 23 years of experience in renewable energy and nearly 2,000 projects delivered across heating, energy generation, efficiency, and storage. Colm brings unmatched insight to the evolving energy landscape.
Colm will focus on
What it means to be an energy prosumer – and how you can become one.
How distributed energy and community virtual power plants (CVPP) are transforming the grid.
A case study on a community virtual power plant in Co. Kilkenny and his plans to launch this model nationally.
His mission behind DaysE, and how surplus or saved energy can be donated to social causes
