Overview
Join Paula Nolan as she showcases her photography of Ireland's changing environment and landscapes
The GEC Sustainability Cluster in association with Techies Go Green presents a compelling visual story about how Ireland’s environment is changing, making it relevant to anyone working in sustainability, ESG, energy, climate, or responsible business.
This event invites attendees to join a fascinating visual journey through Ireland with award-winning photographer Paula T Nolan, who served as the first Photographer-in-Residence for the National Library of Ireland and the Environmental Protection Agency. Paula spent a year travelling to all 26 counties using only public transport and an e-bike to document Ireland’s environment along with the people, businesses, and communities living and working within it.
Her project, titled ‘ReViewing Ireland: A Photo Study of Ireland’s Environment’, captures a country in transition across its rivers, coastlines, farms, towns, businesses, and communities. The work records both progress and pressure, providing a remarkable visual snapshot of Ireland at a pivotal moment in its environmental journey.A particularly powerful element of Paula’s work involves using photographs from the National Library’s historic archives. She returned to the exact same locations decades later to recreate the images, resulting in striking Then & Now photographs that provide a visual record of how Ireland’s landscape and environment have changed.
The project won the ESB Creative Sustainability Award at the 2025 Business to Arts Awards. During the session, Paula will present a selection of her award-winning photographs and share the stories behind them, including accounts of some of the people she encountered on her journey around Ireland.Rather than focusing on environmental statistics or targets, this presentation is about seeing environmental change directly. It promises to be both thought-provoking and inspiring for anyone interested in sustainability, climate change, biodiversity, energy, responsible business, or Ireland's environmental future.
Attendees will have the opportunity to meet Paula, see Ireland through her lens, and leave with a different perspective on the environment.
